MILITARY LOOK OF THE SEVENTIES

The military look enforced in the 70`s also as an political issue. In the end of the 1960`s and in the beginning of the 1970`s, America´s war against Vietnam blustered and against this war the hippies angled their movement. The keyword was "make love, not war". Apart from the hippie movement which already found its own style of fashion, in this time, there were people who dressed with apparals from soldiers` uniforms to create an individual look and to strengthen the counter motion to military.

The most famous apparal of the military look was possibly the parka. The parka is a jacket which is worn above the uniform. The parkas often were furnished with peace symbols and peace affirmative signs so that no one could guess that the owner of this parka had not a positive opinion of war.
Moreover, camouflage trousers and military boots were very popular which partly were adapted before the punk movement.

Deciding point for the popularity of the military look in the seventies was also the longevity, the practicality and the price of clothing. You bought low priced clothes which lasted for a long time and was also practically. Whatever had been said about political declaration.
